Dictation week 4

Remember that a member from the Western Soccer Club will phone on Saturday.  Remember that this person would like to establish a game between the western Perth suburbs and the northern Perth suburbs.  The game is likely to be held in the suburb of North Perth and is likely to draw interest and a significant crowd.  The game will be the perfect start to a season and an excellent way to attract new soccer club members.

Mary MacKillop- A woman of compassion

A Woman of Compassion
Mary MacKillop was a big-hearted woman full of love and compassion.  She wrote a letter to Sr Josephine McMullen telling her ‘to be kind to the poor foreigners’.

Mary wrote to the Sisters in isolated places telling them to have their Religion classes at 12 noon so that the children who had long distances to travel to school would not miss out on their Religion class.

Once a poor lady was sitting in the gutter ill. Sister Mary’s companion thought she was drunk but Mary MacKillop sat down with the woman and realised that she needed help as she was ill. She helped the woman to the chemist shop where she could get assistance for her.

Mary MacKillop- A woman of God

A Woman of God
She spent time in prayer reflecting on the many ways God was active in her life. She made an annual retreat and attended Mass whenever she could.

She encouraged people to find God in the midst of their everyday life - in their joys and their sorrows. She had a special love for St Joseph.

Mary MacKillop was a woman who believed that God loved her.

Mary MacKillop- A woman of Courage

A Woman of Courage
Mary MacKillop had to face many difficult situations and choices in her life. As the eldest child in the family she had to take care of her brothers and sisters. Her father was not able to keep a job so often the family had to rely on relatives for somewhere to live and find food. When Mary was sixteen she went to work as a clerk in Melbourne so that the family would have money to live on. This taught Mary how to face life’s challenges with hope.

Mary also had a lot of sorrow in her life. Her brother John died after falling from a horse, her grandfather drowned in a flood; her mother was drowned in a shipwreck when she was coming to see Mary in Sydney.

Mary also suffered from poor health. She often wrote that she was too sick to get out of bed. This did not stop her from doing God’s work.

She suffered at the hands of some of the Bishops who did not like the way she lived as a Sister of St Joseph or in some cases the way she taught in her schools.
