A letter from your alien
Dear owner,
I have had a lovely time on holiday here on Planet Earth. I have enjoyed meeting all your friends and seeing funny wet stuff coming from the sky. I also saw a little, old man wearing a green outfit dancing around the classroom but when I went to talk to him, he ran away. It is time for me to return to my home planet but I need your help to get out of this solar system. I need to receive clearance from the intergalactic security guard. This means that you need to perform a series of 12 tasks to pass through these checkpoints. Only when all 12 tasks are completed, will I be able to go home. Your teacher is being sent highly confidential, strict instructions on how to get this top-level access.
Thank you for your help. I will always remember your kindness.

A Birth in a Nest
Birth in a nest
First the female crow located a firm branch on a thickly leafed tree. Next the female crow quickly collected a range of twigs, dried grass and vines for her nest. Slowly but neatly and carefully the crow formed a well constructed home. Her eggs would remain safely protected in this nest until ready to hatch.

Buddies
Dear 3A,
I have thought long and hard about this and decided that it really isn’t that important having a prep buddy so we will not having buddies this year. I have several reasons for my decision including the time taken out of our busy Year 3 timetable. Also, the Preps don’t really need any help and besides, what do we really learn from buddies anyway? I know you will agree with me.
To begin with, in Year 3 there is so much work that we have to do that any spare time should be taken up doing spelling, writing, maths or reading. You want to be smart, don’t you? You want to be able to get all your work correct, don’t you? How can you possibly achieve this if you are wasting your time with Preps! Surely you would agree that any time at school should be spent in your own classroom.
Another equally important reason that we won’t need buddies this year is that the Preps really don’t need us. They have been at school for several weeks now and have survived. Why would we need to break up their routine? Preps need to find out how to fend for themselves and they can’t do that if we interfere.
Finally, it is impossible to imagine that any real learning will happen during buddy time. Learning is what school is for, after all! Preps can’t teach us how to read chapter books or to write persuasive arguments. That’s ludicrous!
I know that will agree with me when I say that our time will be better spent in our own classroom doing Year 3 work. Time at school is valuable and we can’t waste it being a buddy. We have too much to learn. The Preps will be fine without us!

An odd beach dream
While asleep I had an odd dream. My puppy and I were happy playing at the beach. Out of the deep sea came a seal with a green ice-cream for each of us to eat. Following the feed of ice-cream we tried to seek shelter from the windy dusty beach air. Next from the deep sea came an eel in a jeep. We both sat on the seats and the eel in the jeep drove us home. What an odd beach dream.
