Dear 3A,
I have thought long and hard about this and decided that it really isn’t that important having a prep buddy so we will not having buddies this year. I have several reasons for my decision including the time taken out of our busy Year 3 timetable. Also, the Preps don’t really need any help and besides, what do we really learn from buddies anyway? I know you will agree with me.
To begin with, in Year 3 there is so much work that we have to do that any spare time should be taken up doing spelling, writing, maths or reading. You want to be smart, don’t you? You want to be able to get all your work correct, don’t you? How can you possibly achieve this if you are wasting your time with Preps! Surely you would agree that any time at school should be spent in your own classroom.
Another equally important reason that we won’t need buddies this year is that the Preps really don’t need us. They have been at school for several weeks now and have survived. Why would we need to break up their routine? Preps need to find out how to fend for themselves and they can’t do that if we interfere.
Finally, it is impossible to imagine that any real learning will happen during buddy time. Learning is what school is for, after all! Preps can’t teach us how to read chapter books or to write persuasive arguments. That’s ludicrous!
I know that will agree with me when I say that our time will be better spent in our own classroom doing Year 3 work. Time at school is valuable and we can’t waste it being a buddy. We have too much to learn. The Preps will be fine without us!
